Client project
Scan a product, see it in use, in hundreds of Jean Coutu pharmacies.
In a pharmacy beauty aisle, shoppers hold a product and wonder whether it is right for them. For L'Oréal at Jean Coutu, Axis4 built a connected tower where a quick scan answers that: how to use it, what to pair it with, before and after, and more. It runs in hundreds of stores, and instead of replacing cardboard and plastic inserts by hand, L'Oréal updates the whole network overnight from Crystal XM.

Connected L'Oréal tower in a Jean Coutu beauty aisle
The challenge
Pharmacy beauty aisles are crowded and mostly self-serve. Shoppers hold a product with questions the packaging can't answer. And every launch or planogram change means printing cardboard and plastic inserts, shipping them and swapping them by hand in every store, so the shelf is always a step behind L'Oréal's calendar.
The experience
Shoppers scan a product at the tower and see what the packaging can't show: how to use it, what to pair it with, before and after results and more. Content is managed from Crystal XM, so it changes with each launch without anyone on site.
The tower's screens take the place of those inserts. From Crystal XM, L'Oréal updates them overnight and decides, planogram by planogram, whether to give the space to one big hero product or to a selection of several brands. The screen stays in sync with the shelves next to it, so what shoppers see matches the products within reach.
Why it works
Every scan answers a question at the moment of choice, in hundreds of stores at once. L'Oréal keeps pace with its launches, and Jean Coutu gets a beauty aisle that helps shoppers decide.
A planogram change becomes a content update instead of a print run: nothing to produce, ship or install, and the new layout is live in every store the next morning.
